Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's departure from the household, the actress was grew up by her mother grandparents, and godparents. As a child Ford was diagnosed with an obsessive-compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to word associations. Ford was interested in the field of acting during her teen years, and joined National Youth Theatre. She got into the Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after only a month, she decided that it wasn't the right fit for her. Ford reapplied to Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth application, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall - who later was the character Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her classmates. Ford graduated in 1993 but at the time she already had made her TV debut on a 1991 episode from Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". Tate appeared on TV in the Nineties in shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually becoming a member of in the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate received recognition for her stand-up comedy and became part of her repertoire in 1996.
